TV presenter Beverley Turner announced on Twitter that she would not take part in a national clap for Sir Captain Tom Moore. She wrote an article for the Daily Mail expressing “mixed feelings about Sir Tom’s doorstep ovation”, adding that “clapping into thin air feels oddly childish and infantilising.”
Piers Morgan called the move “pathetic” on Twitter, sparking pile-on of angry tweeters also criticising Turner’s behaviour. Turner accused Piers of being “wrong and manipulating people to clap for Captain Tom Moore," causing him to block her. Piers was friends with Sir Tom and joined the doorstep clap after he died of Covid aged 100 on Tuesday.

Denise Van Outen has announced she is reviving her music career after almost 20 years. The singer and actress had to pull out of Dancing On Ice after fracturing her shoulder. She has recorded a cover version of ‘On My Own’ from Les Miserables. While there is no release date yet, she plans to release it in aid of the Make A Difference Trust, a charity that brings together the theatre industry to raise funds for HIV and AIDS projects.
She said, “This is what I was going to sing live on Dancing On Ice on musicals week. When I had to drop out I decided to release my own version to raise money for theatre professionals out of work and highlight how difficult it has been for the industry in the pandemic.” The song will be part of a full album she is releasing alongside a tell-all autobiography.
Kylie Minogue denies engagement to Paul Solomons amid marriage rumours
Kylie Minogue has announced she is not engaged to her boyfriend Paul Solomons as they are “happy as they are.” Billie Piper called Kylie’s boyfriend her “fiancé” in an interview on Thursday, causing fans to speculate the pair had gotten engaged in secret. Solomons’ step-mother Gloria appeared to confirm the rumours, saying she was “thrilled” the couple were planning to marry.
However, representation for the Australian singer said, “It’s not true. They are happy as they are.” Kylie and Paul have been dating since 2018, and she has previously said, “I’ve met someone who I feel good with. It feels right.”
Singer Sam Smith reportedly paid £3.8m in one year, despite being unable to tour
Newly released accounts from Sam Smith’s company show they were paid a whopping £3.8m in 2020. This is almost triple the £1.4m paycheque they received from the firm in 2019. The Grammy-award winning artist released their third album, Love Goes in October and reportedly banked £10,000 a day after the release.
In 2020, Smith played 17 shows in South America and South Africa but had to cut the tour short after suffering a severe bout of anxiety. The only other show they played was Mardi Gras in Sydney in February last year.
Serinda Swan to play Elizabeth Taylor in upcoming Korean War movie
Actress Serinda Swan will play Dame Elizabeth Taylor in an upcoming Korean War film called Devotion. The film will follow the true story of two US fighter pilots who became famous after a 1950 battle where pilot Lou Hudner attempted to crash his plane to save his friend Jesse Brown.
Swan, known for starring in TV series Ballers and Coroner, said she was “Feeling incredibly honored to be joining such an amazing cast and crew for Devotion and to be bringing Elizabeth Taylor to the screen.” The film will also star Joe Jonas and Thomas Sadoski.
