It’s easy to fall into a rut with your style as you get older. In 2020, style was the least of our worries, but we’re hoping 2021 will be the year to step up your style.

Fashion is not just a young person’s game. There are plenty of fashion-forward celebrities over 50 you can take inspiration from.

Before getting to our list, we spoke to celebrity and personal fashion stylist Alex Longmore, who had some inspirational words for Age Times readers. Alex told us: "When it comes to fashion, age really is just a number.

"There used to be so many constrictions and rules when it came to dressing in your 50s and up but thankfully that rule book has well and truly been ripped up. Just last week Gwyneth Paltrow, on embracing fifty said she had recently worn the shortest skirt she had ever owned. Now you can wear what we want without being judged.

"There is now so much autonomy in fashion, really anything goes at any age. I think J–Lo is proof that you can wear whatever you want when you want. I think most of us, as we get older, long for comfort. We still want to wear the trends and look our best but the thought of towering heels, tight-fitting fabric and revealing necklines are those of nightmares.

"I always find luxurious fabrics, like silk and soft wool, are excellent ways of staying chic and looking good. Wearing colour is fab to adopt at any age and invest in a jean shape that is current and on-trend, such as the Mom or Boyfriend fit. Flats are easy, there are so many to choose from and the loafer is the key shoe of the season. Wear your clothes with confidence and an inner knowing. With age comes wisdom. Project that and you will look a million dollars whatever age you are at."

Here are eight of our favourite celebrities over 50 whose style you’ll want to steal this year.
